Family History
Both St. Mary's and St
Clement Danes have registers covering births, marriages and deaths from 1558
onwards. There are also
churchwarden's accounts and Vestry minutes from the seventeenth century
to 1900. All of these records have been deposited at the
Westminster Archives.
Westminster Archives also
have rate books and deeds which may reveal who lived in the
parish in the seventeenth, eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries. The bad news is that much of the parish has since been demolished.
Many people contact us
asking where their ancestors are buried. Unfortunately, the burial grounds of
both St Mary's and St Clement's were cleared at the end of the nineteenth
century and the remains taken to Brookwood cemetery near Woking.
There are no records of tombstones in the burial grounds and there are no
inscriptions relating to individuals at Brookwood.
